TILL DEATH

On a cold Saturday I shot this for Quiet on the set Productions. It was so cold that batteries froze up and  the equipment mounted on the camera’s rails froze in place. The post production required a large amount of roto-scoping and tweaking to get the old film look. The only plug in used was Tint to turn them into a grey scale image. Everything else was old school compositing.

SCIENCE

Science was written by John McLenachan as part of a series of shorts featuring two dim witted scientists. I was called in to DP but when I got there John informed me that he was so high on allergy medication that I had to direct. Well not to be a shy person I took the reigns and John was quite happy with the end product, especially the digital post production.

DUEL

WINTER Warfare ( op 12 )

This short film was my most challenging project to date. Not because of the normal production issues, but when your missing an actress and almost three feet of snow fall things get interesting.
The Shoot on the 1st and 9th of March went well, considering the script had to be rewritten to remove a character. It’s hard to believe that this was shot on my front lawn after seeing it almost done.
I learned a lot about shooting in the snow by doing everything wrong. The one thing I did do right was

Short films can be a lot of fun, especially how they bring so many people together. Actors, Gaffer, DP, PA, Set decorator and on and on. As a director it’s amazing to see something go from an idea, to script to finished production.
